Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society
The Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society, a registered charity, is interested in Pender Harbour's past and is determined to share that enthusiasm with the community. Comprised of three separate partner groups, PHLHS members take part in a wide variety of projects in the Harbour.
The
Maritime Section is responsible for the
April Tools Wooden Boat Challenge that draws participants from across the Sunshine Coast and beyond. This mixture of inventive boatbuilding, high school team antics and kids' mini-boatbuilding is blended with a variety of community activities and comprises one of the most enjoyable Harbour activities of the year. We actively participate in
community heritage projects including refurbishing the Pender Harbour entance boat, the Harbour Spirit. We also look after and bring out for public exhibition the Bert MacKay collection, an eclectic group of mementos ranging from Easthope engines to a bathtub full of glass net floats!
The
Sarah Wray Heritage Hall restoration group is focused on the preservation of the old Irvine's Landing School. We hope to turn this community landmark into a functional and active community centre, museum and archives for Garden Bay and the surrounding community.
The
Archive Legacy Committee is putting the finishing touches on our profile of founding women of the Pender Harbour area. This fascinating collection of vignettes of early Harbour life as seen through the eyes of its women residents is slated for publication in Spring 2010.
