The Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society First was chartered in 2001 and received charitable status in 2006.  Society members are interested in Pender Harbour's past and are determined to share that enthusiasm with the community.

Our long term goal is to build a Living Museum in which historical artefacts from the MacKay collection are displayed alongside a boatbuilding facility in which traditional and contemporary techniques are practiced.  Until that goal can be reached, the Society offers boatbuilding classes in conjunction with the Pender Harbour Community School, hosts lectures on historical and maritime subjects, and participates in heritage projects in the Harbour.

An annual harbinger of spring, the April Tools Wooden Boat Challenge, is a major production of the Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society.  Now in its 6th year, this mixture of inventive boatbuilding, high school team antics and kids' mini-boatbuilding is blended with a variety of community activities and comprises one of the most enjoyable Harbour activities of the year.
